Depop is more than a marketplace—it’s a fun and friendly community that spans the globe, and we’re glad you’re a part of it. But to keep this community rocking we need you to agree to a few key rules:
1. The Golden Rule: Be friendly, be fair, be Depop
This is the BIG ONE - While we want you to have fun, we also need your help to keep Depop safe and make it an enjoyable marketplace for everyone. Always make sure you are friendly and fair when dealing with other users, don’t get into fights or name calling, respond quickly and make sure you ship your items fast - just think how you would like to be treated and act accordingly! 2. Only pay in-app using the “Buy” button
Never send bank transfers, direct PayPal payments, or cash/cheques in the post. These payment methods are not safe and are against our Terms of Service so they are not protected by our Buyer Protection policy. If you want more info on buying safely checkout our tips here.
3. Only sell in-app
To be protected by our Seller Protection you must only receive payment through our approved in-app payment method. Asking to be paid outside of the app by bank transfer, direct PayPal payment, or cash is not safe and these payments are against our Terms of Service. Shops that offer “out-of-app” payments will be closed.
4. Don’t sell replicas or other prohibited items
It’s illegal to buy or sell counterfeit items, and there’s no place for fakes or unauthorised copies on Depop. Any item we consider to be a replica or lacks evidence to confirm its authenticity will be removed.
Users who continue to list fake items after being warned will also be banned.
To clarify, Depop does not allow the sale of:
- Any item that breaches trademark and copyright laws
- Used make-up and cosmetics
- Used underwear
- Offensive material
- Drugs and drug paraphernalia
- Items available for digital download
5. Only sell items you own
Depop does not allow drop-shipping or taking pre-orders for items purchased from third parties. Items for sale must be items that you already own, or items that you hand make to order. In the case of made-to-order items, we highly recommend you let your buyer know how long it will take to make and ship the item.
6. Don’t give misleading information
Use accurate descriptions and pictures of the real item—no stock images, please. This also applies to your personal details; use your real information, and don’t impersonate other people or your profile will be removed.
7. Keep your contact e-mail updated
We use email to keep you updated about your sales and purchases, any issues with Depop and to share cool ideas and thoughts. It’s important that we have your most up-to-date email address so we can contact you when you sell or buy an item, or in case of dispute. To check, change, or update your email address, go in the app to Profile > Settings > Edit Profile > Email.
Remember, your contact email is not visible to other users, and we will never share it with anyone.
8. Use your own pictures
Do not borrow, loan, filch or “liberate” another user’s photos from Depop, Instagram, eBay, or wherever you may find them. Likewise, do not Google your item and post only catalogue or stock images.
Only use your own photos, and don’t be afraid to get creative and show off your personality! Great photos are an awesome way to get noticed on the app and you might get featured on the Explore page.

9. No spam. At all. Ever
You know what it’s like to receive unwanted messages or comments so don’t do it to other people.
Spam can include, but is not limited to:
- Advertising via comments on other’s items or private messages. Yes, this includes, “Check out my Depop”, or “Huge sales on my Depop, check it out.”
- Hashtags or lists of keywords in descriptions that do not directly relate to the item you are selling. Do not refer to other items you’re selling in your Depop shop in a listing or suggest that your item is similar to more than one brand.
10. Do not intentionally offend, harass, or abuse others
Please do not use Depop as an outlet for negativity and abuse against other users or Depop staff. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Posting screenshots with negative or accusatory comments
- Commenting or sending private messages of an aggressive, offensive or harassing nature
- Responding to emails from Depop with aggressive or offensive language.
We have a zero tolerance policy on abuse and harassment so you will be immediately removed from the platform if you are offensive.
If you experience any harassment, report it in-app immediately and we will make sure that we investigate quickly.
What happens when the rules are infringed?
If your profile infringes the rules, you will be contacted by our moderation team via email informing you of what rules you violated and how to resolve the situation. It’s very important that your email address is correct and up-to-date for this reason. To check, change, or update your email address, go in the app to Profile > Settings > Edit Profile > Email.
If you don’t take action and rectify the problem, or if you ignore our messages, we might decide to close your account. And we really don’t want to do that.
